Jacksonville, Florida, May 4, 2016 – Coastline Federal Credit Union presented a $10,000 check this week to Wolfson Children’s Hospital for its Diabetes and Endocrinology Center of Distinction Endowment. The generous gift will be matched 100 percent through Baptist Health’s Endowment Matching Gift Program.
The endowment was established to support the Diabetes and Endocrinology Center of Distinction at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, which offers world-class diagnosis, treatment and management of diabetes, endocrine disorders and metabolic syndromes. Through a multidisciplinary team approach, pediatric endocrinologists from Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville, along with Wolfson Children’s diabetes educators, registered nurses and registered dieticians, work with children to treat and manage conditions ranging from Type 1 or 2 diabetes, hypoglycemia and thyroid, adrenal, pituitary and growth and maturation disorders.
“After learning that our staff was responsible for helping to create a new feature for our online banking platform through Alkami Technology, Inc. and eligible to receive a portion of the future proceeds from this feature for the charity of our choice, we were asked to name the charity,” said Donna Johnson, Coastline Federal Credit Union CEO. “Our staff thought about it and decided to pick Wolfson Children's Hospital because it has touched the lives of so many of our employees by caring for their children and grandchildren over the years. At Coastline Federal Credit Union, we know how precious our families are to us and our members, and we hope that our donation will help save the lives of children in our community.”
Programs and services offered to Wolfson Children’s patients at the Diabetes and Endocrinology Center Center of Distinction include the Northeast Florida Pediatric Diabetes Center, which guides children and families how to treat and manage a new diabetes diagnosis; clinical studies and research programs that pave the way to a cure for diabetes while helping patients live better lives; family and individual counseling; insulin pump classes; and a support group for adolescents that provides support and encouragement to young adults so they will make healthier lifestyle and nutrition choices as they grow into their teen years.
